Our Ministries

Our Christian family coalesces around the nine core ministries below. At the heart of each ministry is our mission to be disciples who are making disciples. We are eager to share your talents and passion; and we anticipate you will want to be active in these ministries. If you would like to learn more about the general environment of the church, go to "More Info".

Praise & Worship

Vibrant praise and worship is at the heart of body life at Brooks Avenue! Our worship includes members actively leading and participating in every aspect of the service.

A body is only as healthy as its heart and the heart of our congregation is to become disciples who are making disciples.

Worship at Brooks Avenue is supported by the praise team (men and women who utilize their vocal gifts to support acapella congregational singing), the technology team (audio and video support) and the creative arts ministry (dramatic presentations, readings, video productions). You can also expect messages that are rooted in Scripture and rich in application to the life of the follower of Jesus.

Journey Groups

As we connect with God and each other in small groups we develop deeper relationships and experience the transforming power of the Spirit.

A key element of our discipleship focus is the community we experience in our Journey Groups. Recognizing the need and power of community for spiritual formation, Journey Groups meet at a dozen locations throughout Wake and Durham Counties as followers of Jesus come together to pray, dig into the Scriptures, discuss the application of the sermon, encourage and support one another and participate in the joy of table fellowship!

Special Needs

The Brooks Avenue congregation is a place where individuals with special needs are accepted as true children of God. This is a place of belonging.

We understand that all people are created unique and that each person has an invaluable role to play in the mosaic of creation AND in the Discipleship process. We have heard too many stories of caregivers who felt like church was something they had to give up when their dependent with special needs was born. At Brooks Avenue, you will find classes, events and environments where the entire special family can participate, grow and ultimately soar (Isaiah 40:31). We also have an annual Spring Carnival, Summer Camp and Conference to serve and support our local special community.

You will also find accommodations for any other ministry that you wish to participate in. Nothing is off limits or unavailable to those whom the world has labeled “special needs” at Brooks Avenue. We can provide church volunteers or professional staff members to assist individuals with whatever level of participation is desired.

Community Outreach and Engagement Ministry

Our Community Outreach and Engagement Ministry connects our ministries with the community through Celebrate Recovery, Pride for Parents Toy Store, and Benevolence.

Community Outreach and Engagement Ministry assists the local community both physically and spiritually, collaborating with other organizations to implement evidence based programs.

Our benevolence ministry serves the physical needs of persons who need the love of Jesus Christ due to hardships that they have encountered.

College-age Ministry

Our College-age Ministry seeks to bring together students that are enrolled in one of the several university and college campuses in our area. Located near the campuses of North Carolina State University and Meredith College, and a short drive from several other colleges and universities in Wake County, we offer a welcoming and Bible-based experience.

Children's Ministry

At Brooks Avenue Church of Christ, we want every child to feel loved and accepted. Our Children’s Ministry is dedicated to helping children and their parents learn important biblical truths while forging meaningful relationships within the Christian community. By studying the bible, children learn about God’s love; by making friends at Church, they feel God’s love. We invite you to let us get to know and love your child.

Youth Ministry

Our Youth Ministry is a safe place for teens to explore and deepen their faith alongside other similarly aged youth who seek to do the same. “Real teens” doing life with Jesus and living a lifestyle where God takes center stage can sometimes be tough – especially in middle school and high school.

Teens encounter the transforming presence, power, and love of Jesus by creating an interactive community that’s founded on worship, the Bible, and equipping teenagers into their God-given identity and gifting. Our hope is that our students are forever changed by God’s grace, and that each student experiences a deepening relationship with Christ and learn what it means to be a disciple-maker!

Adult Education & Relationships

The body of Christ includes people from many backgrounds, who wish to build strong and long-lasting relationship with a diverse group of people seeking to serve Him!

We have programs and activities for all ages and genders. Examples include a weekly men's Bible study group, women's social activities, a variety of social and Bible study meet-ups, and prayer and grief support.

We welcome each person to join one of our growing number of disciple groups where we explore how Christians can become disciples who are making disciples.

Christian Community Connections

Members are encouraged to "do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share (I Timothy 6:18). This has led to a number of member-led ministries, programs and activities.

Our world missions support serves on four continents and more than 10 countries. This includes two schools of preaching, one orphanage and several gospel missionaries. Members are active in Bible correspondence courses with students from around the world. Members travel on short-term foreign missions.  We collaborate with the Ciudad de Angeles orphanage in Mexico.

Some domestic efforts include disaster relief and recover efforts from natural disasters with the Church of Christ Disaster Response Effort and the Church of Christ Disaster Response Team.  Our members serve in a variety of roles with a foster care organization named AGAPE of N.C.. There are opportunities for professionals with expertise in accounting, human resources, legal, and facilities to assist in the general operations of the church.
